An estimate by CIBiogás (International Centre for Renewable Energy) points out that biogas has the potential to meet 36% of Brazilian electricity demand. In its map of biogas production units in Brazil, BiogasMap, the entity mapped 8 plants operating in establishments dedicated to poultry farming, with a total production capacity of 4,761,983 m³/year and the thermal and electrical application of the biogas produced.

Chicken production in Brazil currently hovers around 5 billion birds, the country being the largest exporter in the world, which has enormous potential for generating energy through waste. The Ministry of Agriculture currently has 2,357 commercial poultry farms registered in its system.
